HMS Hermes was the Flagship of the Falklands War. All those years ago, we, alongside our fellow Armed Forces, Merchant Navy and Civilian colleagues made a huge difference to the lives of the Falkland Islanders by liberating them from invasion. Now we would like to help make a difference to the school children out in Camp (Camp is any settlement outside the city of Stanley).
We believe that everyone deserves access to a better life, and we work tirelessly to make that a reality. On visiting the schools in the remote areas it was evident that greater access to devices for children to use in school and home would transform their education so we set about on a mission to make it become a reality. We are currently fundraising to provide every school child in Camp plus every child with special needs with their own Ipad, and we need your help.
We have already raised £6,200 of our target of £10,000 and we ask that you create your own fundraising project to help us reach this goal. Maybe a coffee morning, a sponsored walk, a loud shirt party.. Every penny will make a huge difference to the lives of these children in camp giving them greater access to the vast amounts of knowledge available on the internet and making it easier to communicate with other children all across the Islands.
For further information please email andy@hmshermes.co.uk or use the donate button below to help make that difference.
Your support and contributions will enable us to meet our goals and improve education. Your generous donation will fund our mission.
On the Falkland Islands, where the winds do play,
A young child rises to greet the day.
In the heart of camp, where sheep roam free,
There's a world of wonder waiting to see.
The sun peeks over hills of green,
A sight so pure, so calm, serene.
With a backpack slung and a smile wide,
The child steps out with eager stride.
The sea's embrace, a calming blue,
Whispers tales of adventure, old and new.
Penguins waddle, in their suits so neat,
A cheerful sight on small, swift feet.
The fields stretch out, a canvas bright,
Where horses run and birds take flight.
Lessons learned with nature's hand,
A classroom vast, a learning land.
In the cozy warmth of the schoolhouse small,
Echoes of laughter fill the hall.
Friends and teachers, a family near,
Sharing stories, chasing fear.
Breaks are spent with sheepdogs keen,
Rounding up sheep in pastures green.
Nature's rhythm, a lullaby,
Under the vast, clear Falklands sky.
Stars at night, a sparkling show,
Guide the dreams where young minds go.
Of island life, of winds and waves,
Of brave explorers and hidden caves.
So sleep, young child, with heart so free,
In the Falklands' arms, where you're meant to be.
Dream of adventures yet to come,
In the land you proudly call your home.
